SEO agency New York for small businesses

We fix why customers are not finding you, then build the pages and the authority that keep you found. Reported against inquiries, not against a rankings chart.

How we work

How we approach an SEO engagement

Every engagement starts with an audit, because guessing is expensive. We map what search engines can and cannot reach on your site, what you currently rank for, what your competitors rank for that you do not, and which of those gaps is worth closing first. The searches that lead here vary — seo agency new york city, or simply seo in ny — but the gap list behind them is the same one.

That produces a written plan with an order of work. The order matters more than the list: technical fixes first because they unlock everything else, then the pages that answer buying-intent searches, then the authority work that makes those pages competitive. Doing it in the wrong order is how twelve months disappear with nothing to show.

Technical SEO comes first

Most sites lose more to crawlability, duplicate templates and slow pages than to anything a content plan can fix. In the first fortnight we work through:

  • Indexation. Which pages Google can actually reach, and which are being blocked, canonicalised away or lost in redirect chains.
  • Page titles and headings. One clear target per page, no two pages competing for the same term.
  • Structured data. LocalBusiness, Service and Offer markup so search engines and AI assistants can read your business without inferring it.
  • Speed. Core Web Vitals on mobile, because that is where the traffic and the drop-off both are.
  • Internal linking. Making sure the pages you want to rank are the ones the site itself points at most.

Local visibility for New York businesses

For most businesses here the map results matter more than the blue links. That work is separate from ordinary SEO and it is where the fastest wins usually sit.

  • A Google Business Profile filled in completely: precise categories, every service listed, hours including holidays, recent photographs.
  • Business details identical across every listing, because inconsistency is a direct ranking problem.
  • Service area configured correctly if you travel to customers rather than receiving them.
  • Neighborhood-level pages, because almost nobody searches at borough level. Our own page for University Heights in the Bronx shows what one looks like.

The full method, the monthly deliverables and the price sit on our local SEO agency page for New York.

Content built from real searches

We build the plan from what your customers actually type, not from a keyword volume export. That usually produces fewer pages than agencies propose, and they tend to hold position longer because each one answers something properly.

Two to six articles a month depending on the package, each targeting one term nothing else on the site targets. We write them, you review them, and anything that needs your subject knowledge we brief and edit rather than invent.

Link building that earns rather than buys

Links remain one of the strongest ranking factors, which is why the market for fake ones is enormous. We do not buy packages. Three to eight links a month from sites relevant to your industry or your city, placed in real content, earned through outreach and genuinely useful pages.

If a service offers you a thousand links for a hundred dollars, you are buying a risk that lands as a manual action eighteen months later.

Reporting you can argue with

Monthly reporting ties the work to inquiries wherever the data allows it, and says plainly where it does not. You get rankings for the terms we are targeting, organic traffic split by page, inquiries attributed to source, and a short written note on what moved and what we are doing next.

Rankings are an input. The number that decides whether this is working is cost per inquiry, and it appears on every report.

SEO services included in the plan

Agencies often sell the work below as separate line items. Here it is one engagement: the audit decides which parts your site needs, the written plan sets the order, and one monthly report covers all of it. Everything here sits inside the plan and scales with the tier, except consulting, which is hourly because it is for teams running their own SEO rather than hiring a supplier.

Each section names the work, when it matters, and what you actually receive. Where something falls outside the plan, such as a large catalog or an hour of consulting, it says so here rather than at the quote.

Technical SEO

This is the part that removes the reasons a page cannot compete at all: URLs a crawler never reaches, templates that duplicate one another, canonical tags aimed at the wrong page, redirect chains left behind by an old site, content that only appears after JavaScript runs, and mobile pages heavy enough to lose the visitor before anything is readable.

It matters most after a redesign, a platform move, or a few years of plugins added by different hands. Nothing looks broken from where you sit, because your browser has the page cached and you already know where everything is. A crawler arrives with none of that.

You get a full crawl of the site, a prioritized list of what is wrong, and then the fixes applied to the site rather than handed back as homework. We work through the same items set out in our technical SEO checklist, so you can check the work instead of taking it on trust. Technical SEO services are inside the plan, not a line item on top of it.

SEO audit

There are two audits here, and the first one is free. The search visibility audit costs nothing, needs only your URL, and you keep the findings whether or not you hire us. The paid one is the fixed-scope audit and fix that opens an engagement, where the findings are implemented rather than filed.

Either way it is a document, not a meeting. You get the crawl with the URL beside each problem, the terms sitting just off the first page, the pages on your site competing with each other, and a numbered order of work with the reason for the order. Most of what a good audit tells you is about sequence rather than volume, which is why ours ends with that order instead of an undifferentiated list of warnings.

SEO audit services are where every engagement here starts, because the alternative is paying somebody to guess. The free one also tells you whether you need an agency at all. Some sites need two fixes and a Business Profile, and we will say so.

Link building

Three to eight earned links a month, and the number moves with the tier. Earned means an editor chose to publish the page the link sits in. That makes the count uneven: some months the answer is no more often than yes, and the honest response is a smaller number that month rather than something bought to hit the target.

The work itself is outreach, and it needs three things:

  • Something worth linking to. A page, a data set or a tool on your site that gives an editor a reason to point at you.
  • A named target list. Publications, suppliers, associations and local press, each with the reason it is on the list.
  • A monthly list of live URLs. Where each link sits, the anchor text, and the date it appeared.

Anybody buying link building services should ask where the links come from and what happens in a month when nobody says yes. It is the first question we would put to any agency on a list of the best SEO companies in New York, and the answers vary far more than the prices do.

SEO content

Two to six articles a month inside the plan, and the cap is deliberate. Publishing more usually means publishing thinner, and two pages that answer a question properly outlast six that circle it. Volume is also the easiest thing to show a client when nothing else is moving.

SEO content writing starts with a brief rather than a title. The brief names the search behind the article, the questions people ask around it, what the pages currently ranking leave out, the internal links the piece has to carry, and the one thing only you know: the objection you hear on the phone, the job that went wrong, the reason customers choose you over the cheaper option. Articles fail more often for missing that than for missing a keyword.

Each piece goes live with its headings, structured data and internal links already in place, so the page is finished on the day it publishes rather than optimized later. How many you get scales with the tier, and the full list of deliverables sits on our SEO package for small businesses page alongside the rest of that plan.

E-commerce SEO

This is not a separate discipline. It is work on product pages, category pages and the structure of a catalog. If you sell twelve products, it is a small piece of your normal plan. If you run a WooCommerce store with several hundred, the structure itself becomes the problem, and that is what ecommerce SEO services are for. Catalogs at that size are scoped and quoted as their own project, the way larger builds are.

What usually needs doing:

  • Category pages that can rank. Most stores put their effort into products, while the searches with buying intent are category-level.
  • Product pages in their own words. Manufacturer copy duplicated across every retailer gives a search engine no reason to prefer your version.
  • Filters under control. Faceted navigation can generate thousands of near-identical URLs, and search engines will index the mess.
  • Product markup. Price and availability, so the listing carries information before the click.

All of it assumes the store is sound underneath. If it is not, our e-commerce web design work in NYC comes first, because optimizing a checkout nobody completes is wasted effort.

SEO consulting

Some teams do not need an agency. They need an hour with somebody who has seen the problem before. SEO consulting services here are for the marketer, developer or owner already doing the work who wants a second opinion on a decision that is expensive to reverse: a replatform, a URL structure, a migration plan, whether the old blog is worth keeping.

Consulting runs at our published rate of $150 per hour, billed in half hours after the first hour and quoted in advance when a job runs longer, so there is no open meter. You get the call, the reasoning in writing afterwards, and the next steps in an order your own team can work through.

It is also the right answer while you are still deciding whether to hire anybody, a question we set out in our comparison of doing SEO yourself or hiring an agency rather than leaving it to a sales call.

Small business SEO services, sized to the business

Small business SEO services have to be sized to the business rather than to a template. Here that means the tracked keyword set, the article count and the link range all scale with the tier, and the audit decides which of them your site needs first. One location or a few, a handful of pages that actually earn money, and a plan that has to show its working: that is the shape most of this is built for.

What it costs and what you get

SEO and marketing starts at $799 per month — fixed price SEO, published rather than quoted. Think of the tiers as SEO packages with every deliverable in the open. That covers 10 to 30 tracked keywords, two to six articles, three to eight links, Google Business Profile work and monthly reporting, scaled to the tier. The AI side of that plan has its own page: AI search optimization for New York businesses sets out the access checks, the answer-first pages and the citation reporting. The profile side has one too: Google Business Profile optimization services covers the monthly profile work and who owns the profile. The first engagement is a fixed-scope audit and fix so you can judge the work before committing to anything ongoing.

Monthly work runs month to month with 30 days notice. There is no long contract, because a contract is not what should keep a client.

How much does SEO cost in New York?

The published numbers we checked in September 2026: entry retainers at New York agencies start at $950 and $999 per month, mid tiers sit around $2,200, and enterprise tiers reach $5,400 — often with a six-month commitment recommended before you can fairly judge the work. Our plan is $799 per month, month to month, with the deliverables named above. The market-wide breakdown, route by route, is in how much SEO costs, and every number we charge sits on the pricing page.

Why choose a fixed-price search engine optimization agency over a retainer?

Because the exit cost is part of the price. Over twelve months, $799 month to month comes to $9,588 — and you can stop at month four if the work disappoints. The entry retainers above come to $11,400 to $11,988 a year, and a commitment period prices your patience into the contract. A search engine optimization agency in New York that publishes its prices has to keep earning the work every month; that is the whole idea. The full comparison, model by model, is in how agency pricing works.

Does my SEO agency in New York need to be near me?

Not for your own rankings, although distance does shape which agencies you find. When you search for an SEO company near you, Google can show local results on Maps and in Search. Its guidance on local ranking names three main factors: relevance to the search, distance from the person searching, and prominence. Prominence is how well known a business is, which includes links and reviews.

In that search, the agency is the business being ranked, so its distance from you does count. The map results show who is close and well reviewed, not how the agency does the work. Your customers, however, run a different search. For them, the distance that counts is how far your business is from them. Where your agency is based is not one of those three factors. That is why a complete, verified Business Profile does more for your local rankings than an agency down the street. Our guide on how Google Maps SEO in New York works goes through it borough by borough.

As for us, Morneto serves all five boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island). Clients who want to review their SEO in person can do so at our New York office. Set a date by email first. If what matters is whether customers near you can find you, start with a free SEO audit. It shows what stands between your business and the people searching for it, and you keep it either way.

Questions

What clients ask before starting

Technical fixes can move rankings within weeks. Content and authority compound over several months. Anybody promising a fixed date for a specific ranking is guessing, and you should treat that as a warning sign.

Ours starts at $799 per month. The market ranges from a few hundred to several thousand, and below roughly $500 you are usually buying automated reports rather than work.

We can, or we brief and edit your team. Subject knowledge normally sits inside your business, so a mix produces better articles than either side working alone.

No. Monthly work runs month to month with 30 days notice. The first engagement is a fixed-scope audit and fix, and you decide after that.

No, and neither can anybody else. What we can do is fix what is holding the site back, build the content and links that earn position, and show you the movement month by month.

Yes, across the United States. The New York focus exists because that is where most inquiries come from and where the local work is strongest.

As an SEO agency in New York, we serve all five boroughs. Brooklyn and Queens have dedicated local SEO pages — see SEO Brooklyn and SEO Queens — and we serve Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island on the same published $799 plan: the borough changes the keywords, not the price. Whether you would call us an SEO firm or a search engine optimization company, most of the work runs online. Your borough does not change how the work is done.

Four things, in this order: fix what stops Google from reading your site, build pages that answer what your customers actually search for, strengthen your Google Business Profile and reviews, and earn the mentions that make Google — and AI assistants like ChatGPT — recommend you. That last part is GEO (generative engine optimization), and here it is part of the same $799 plan, not a separate invoice. The honest first step is a free SEO audit that shows which of the four your business needs most.
