AI SEO & GEO: Getting Your Business Cited in AI Search
Most of what an AI SEO agency sells is invisible from the outside. So start with what you can check today: which crawlers our robots.txt admits, what our Content-Signal line declares, how our guides are built. Then ask the same of whoever else you are considering. From $799 per month, inside the SEO plan.
How we work
What an AI SEO agency can actually show you
Access first. Our robots.txt names GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot. It also carries a Content-Signal line reading search=yes, ai-input=yes, ai-train=yes, which states a preference rather than a lock. Underneath sit the network settings, because a content network can override a file. Ours were re-checked on 20 September 2026: AI bot protection, AI training, AI search and AI user blocking are off.
Then the content. Every guide we publish opens with a direct answer and keeps its sections short, with a question in each heading. That is the shape Bing’s guidance asks for. Each carries a contents list. Then the entity: one address, LocalBusiness schema carrying the legal name, a verified Google Business Profile, a sameAs list. Those four artifacts are our AI SEO services, and each one opens in a browser.
Why AI answers need a separate track
A ranking is something you can watch. Type the query, look at the position, argue about it next month. An AI answer offers none of that. Google’s documentation describes a question fanned out into related queries nobody typed, then answered from pages in the index. So the sentence naming you can rest on a query no tracker holds, on a page nobody watched.
The reporting splits in two. The work does not. Google’s guidance says optimizing for generative AI search is still optimizing for search. So it sits inside the SEO plan it belongs to and not beside it. When AI search optimization is quoted as its own retainer, ask what the second invoice pays for.
What an AI SEO agency does every month
After the first month it settles into a routine: five jobs, one order, one page of notes at the end. The labels vary, from AI visibility to LLM SEO, but the list does not.
- Access re-checked: robots.txt, the network settings, and the Search Console control that decides eligibility for Google’s AI features.
- One page rewritten to answer first, the question as its heading and the answer in the opening lines.
- Entity upkeep: the same schema, categories and sameAs discipline as our local SEO work in New York, checked against the profile.
- Mentions pursued on the sites that keep appearing as sources when we run your buyers’ questions.
- One report: what the instruments showed, what we changed, what comes next.
None of it is exotic, and all of it is inspectable.

How an AI SEO agency measures citations
Two engines publish something, and you can log in and see the screens we see. Search Console has reported impressions from Google’s generative AI features to every site since 31 August 2026: impressions only, no clicks and no queries. Bing Webmaster Tools shows how your content appears across Copilot and Bing’s AI summaries, and says the query data behind it is a sample. GA4 adds the visits that arrive from an assistant as a referral. That is where ChatGPT SEO ends in a click you can count.
Your report carries those lines and names the screen each came from. Past them the instruments run out. OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity publish no owner-side reporting. So we ask your buyers’ questions on a schedule and keep the answers, dated. A score that claims more than that is inferring from prompts, not reading the engine.
What it costs, and what we will not promise
$799 per month, month to month with 30 days notice. The first engagement is a fixed-scope audit and fix, so the first thing you buy has an end date. A free search visibility audit comes before it. There is no AI tier and no surcharge. Every check, page and report sits inside the fee, and the prices we publish name what each level includes.
Then the refusals, the part you can hold us to. We cannot promise a citation, in any engine, at any budget, and will not write one into a proposal. We cannot place you inside a named product’s answers. Google states that inclusion in its organic results is never sold. Nor can we give you a date: Google says crawling alone runs from days to months. What is promised is the work, the evidence, and the report.
Questions
Questions about hiring an AI SEO agency
What is the difference between SEO and GEO?
For your invoice, none: one plan, one scope, one report, and that report carries two lines instead of one. Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the part aimed at being quoted inside an answer rather than listed beneath it. Google’s guidance calls optimizing for generative AI search still search optimization. The definitions sit in the related GEO and SEO guide.
Can you pay an AI SEO agency for a citation?
No. None of the engines sells one, and anyone offering it is selling something they do not control. Labeled advertising around AI answers does exist, from Google and Microsoft, and Google’s runs through its ordinary ad auction. An ad beside an answer and a citation inside one are different products, and only one of them is for sale.
How does an AI SEO agency prove you were cited?
By showing the screens instead of a score. Two lines come from Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, a third from GA4, and the section above says what each misses. For ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity there is no owner-side report. So the method is asking the questions on a schedule and keeping dated answers. Anything more confident than that is inference.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
No. We keep one and we have never billed for it. Nothing on the site depends on it either. If a proposal prices llms.txt as a monthly line item, that is the line to question. Our llms.txt guide sets out the evidence for and against the file.
Could my site be turning AI crawlers away already?
It happens, and usually nobody chose it. A content network can close AI access across a whole site from one switch. Cloudflare’s Bot Preference Sync writes those dashboard settings straight into robots.txt, and for publishers that monetize with advertising it disallows AI training by default. Blocking GPTBot opts you out of training; blocking OAI-SearchBot is what keeps a site out of ChatGPT’s search answers. We re-check ours monthly, last on 20 September 2026.
How long does an AI SEO agency take to work?
Nobody publishes a number, the engines included. Google says crawling alone can take days to months. The only AI-specific timing it does publish runs the other way: exclusion takes one to two days. So we date the things that have dates: access fixed, page shipped, first impressions recorded. The rest stays undated.
Will an AI SEO agency cost me normal search traffic?
No. The same pages do both jobs. Google’s published condition is an indexed, snippet-eligible page that the Search Console control has not excluded. No separate file, no special markup. The way to lose is to overdo it. Near-identical pages for every phrasing of a question fall under Google’s scaled content abuse policy. So we cap how many go out.
Next step
Start with what is checkable
The free visibility audit answers two things in writing. First, which AI crawlers your site currently turns away. Second, which of your pages sits closest to quotable. Send a URL through the contact page, and add Search Console access if you have it. The findings are yours either way.
